Primary Purpose:

Perform general tasks involving physical labor at construction sites. May clean and prepare sites, dig trenches, set braces to support the sides of excavations, and clean up rubble, debris and other waste materials. May assist other craft workers.


Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

o Use appropriate hand (i.e. hammer, screwdriver, broom, sledge hammer) and power tools (i.e. sand blasting equipment, grinders, hand compactors) to perform a variety of functions including, but not limited to, digging, spreading and leveling dirt and gravel, using pick, shovel and wheelbarrow. o Lift, carry, hold and move building materials, tools, and supplies. o Clean tools, equipment, material, and work areas; mix, pour and spread concrete, asphalt, gravel and other materials. o Perform a variety of routine, non-machine tasks, such as removing forms from set concrete, filling expansion joints with asphalt, placing culvert sections in trench, assembling sections of dredge pipeline, driving stakes. o Perform cleaning, compacting, grading, painting, sanding or stripping operations; worker may spend time on one job or may be transferred from task to task as the project progresses to completion. o Help lubricate, clean, or repair machinery, equipment, or tools. o Participate in all safety related processes and programs as requested. Engage with your work team to ensure we achieve zero injuries. Understand that no job is so important that your safety and that of your crew will be compromised. Watch for hazards and report any concerns to your supervisor or safety professional. If needed, use your stop work authority until the issue is resolved. o Report all accidents and near misses to supervisor; participate in investigation process as needed. o Participate in all pre-job work planning and safety discussions; Identify safety hazards you or other employees may be subject to and take all necessary corrective action to eliminate and/or mitigate hazards. o Understand and respond appropriately to all safety hazards and warning devices (i.e. back-up alarms, smell of smoke, different colored warning tags, warning sirens). o Attend site specific training and assure you follow all procedures as out lined in training. o Follow established safety rules and regulations and maintain a safe and clean work environment. o Use effective verbal and written communication skills. o Listen to co-workers suggestions, safety concerns, and recommendations giving full attention to what they are saying and take the time to understand the points being made, asking questions and providing feedback when appropriate. o Coordinate work with other crafts and co-workers on the job. o Actively participate in on-the-job training and mentoring opportunities with co-workers in your craft when provided. o Produce quality work, meeting requirements of plans, specifications and industry standards. o Learn to read and understand plans and specifications. Visualize two dimensional drawings in three dimensions. o With regard to that portion of the work assigned, assist in the storage, planning and lay-out of materials in accordance with those plans and specifications. Assist journeymen in laying out work and learn to perform layout independently. o Learn to observe functioning of installed equipment or systems to determine hazards and need for adjustments, relocation, or replacement. Notify supervision of any hazards observed and utilize safety stop work authority as needed. o Examine/inspect field conditions and identify problems, inaccuracies, and cost saving measures that arise or that may be encountered. Take corrective actions as needed reporting any issues to your supervision. o If certified to operate equipment ensure that construction equipment is correctly operated, maintained, in good working order, and Daily Equipment Inspections are completed for equipment being utilized. o Comply with Company Code of Conduct and jobsite policies. o Perform all other actions necessary to accomplish the foregoing principal duties and accountabilities. o Work in other crafts at levels appropriate to training and skills as requested by project supervision. o Perform all other job related duties as requested by supervisor.


Minimum Qualifications:

0 - 2 years of experience working as a laborer or in any construction craft as a helper, Ability to understand and follow directions. Must have all necessary tools (see Laborer tool list). Must be at least 18 years of age. All applicants must be able to complete pre-employment onboarding requirements (if selected) which may include any/all of the following: criminal/civil background check, drug screen, and motor vehicle records search, in compliance with any applicable laws and regulations.
